Description
Black volcanic glass, formed where molten rock cooled too fast to crystallize. It breaks in curved shells and takes an edge finer than any metal, then loses it just as easily, since the brittleness that makes the edge is the same brittleness that ruins it.
Found near vents and old flows, usually in sheets that have to be broken free rather than dug.
