Anvil

A heavy iron block on a low stand, its face polished mirror-smooth by years of hammering. Ingots drawn from the furnace are worked here into the weapons and armor that smithing is known for.

An anvil outlives the smith who owns it, and a well-used one is worth more than a new one — the ring of a good anvil tells a smith how a piece is taking shape without ever looking up.
