Barley Sheaf

Barley Sheaf

A bound armful of bearded stalks, pale straw-gold.

Description

Cut whole from the nodding stands of BarleyBarley and bound at the stem, this sheaf still bristles with the long awns that make the plant unmistakable in a field. The grain stays locked in the heads until a mill threshes it loose.

Barley is a stubborn crop, holding out on thin ground where wheat and rye give up, and its awns fight the blade the whole way. The rustic loaf it bakes into tastes of the ground it came off.
