Cotton

Cotton grows as a low, sprawling shrub across the warmer meadows of the middle isles, its branches breaking open in season into round white bolls. Each boll is packed with soft, cloud-light fibers —Cotton Fibers — that all but fall into a forager's hand.

Where flax must be beaten and retted before it gives up its thread, cotton offers itself freely, and the cloth it makes is softer and warmer than plain linen ever manages. It is the first fiber a forager gathers that feels less like harvesting and more like picking clouds.
