Moonthistle grows on the wind-scoured heights of the upper isles, its spined heads breaking in season into a silver down that catches the moonlight and holds a faint glow of its own. The down lifts free at a touch, drifting like sparks — 

Light as breath and cool to the touch, moonthistle down carries a faint silver luminescence that lingers even indoors, as though it kept a little of the night sky caught in its fibers. It drifts at the slightest stir, so it is gathered on still nights and guarded close from the wind.
Spun and woven, it becomes mooncloth — a fabric that seems to glow from within. Few foragers ever gather enough of it to spare.
