Long and rope-colored, hemp fibers are rough enough to catch on calloused skin, yet a single strand will hold weight that would snap finer cloth outright. Stripped from the stalk and twisted together, they only grow stronger.
They are the first fibers a novice tailor is handed, woven coarse into burlap — the humble, scratchy sacking that clothes the realm's poorest and swaddles its cargo. Nobody chooses to wear hemp, but everybody begins with it.


Hemp Fibers

Coarse, immensely strong strands stripped from hemp stalks.

Woven at the loom from @items/fibers/hemp, burlap is the crudest cloth the realm knows — stiff, open-weave, and rough enough to raise a welt on tender skin. It takes no dye worth the name and holds no shape at all, but it is cheap, it is strong, and it never quite wears out.
It clothes the realm's poorest and sacks its grain in equal measure. No tailor is proud of a bolt of burlap, yet every tailor begins with one — it is the first cloth the hands learn to weave before they earn anything softer.
