Green-stained rock with reddish metal showing through wherever the surface has weathered. 

Reddish-brown ore, soft enough that a new miner can get it out of the rock without ruining a pickaxe. It surfaces more often than most metals, in green-stained seams that are easy to spot once you know the color.
Smelted on its own it makes a metal too soft to hold an edge. Alloyed with tin it becomes bronze, which is where most smiths start.


Copper Ore

Warm reddish ore, malleable and responsive.

 comes away easily, which is why nearly every miner starts on a deposit like this.
